Deer numbers are thought to be at their highest level for 1,000 years. 21 Jun 2023

Wildcat

The wildcat is a shy and elusive predator that is native to Britain and is closely related to the domestic cat.

These beautiful creatures are mostly found in the Scottish Highlands, and are distinguished by their thick striped fur and bushy tail.

Unfortunately, wildcat populations in Britain are under threat due to habitat loss, hunting, and interbreeding with feral domestic cats.

British Wildlife Hedgehog

Hedgehogs are one of Britain's most beloved and recognizable mammals and can be found in gardens, parks and hedgerows throughout the country.

These spiny little creatures are excellent at foraging for insects and other small prey, and are also known for their distinctive defensive curl. However, puffin populations in Britain are also in decline due to habitat loss and changes in fish populations.

Badger

Badgers are nocturnal mammals that are known for their distinctive black and white striped faces.

These social creatures live in family groups or clans in underground setts that can be hundreds of years old.

Badgers are omnivores and eat a wide range of foods including earthworms, fruit and small mammals.
